Ever since the
Arizona immigration law was signed by Governor Jan Brewer, condemnations are pouring in. The law has been pilloried by the President, and recently, Meghan McCain, Janet Napolitano and also the Government of Mexico. The issue needs redress, but the debate thus far is over methods. As it stands, Arizona practically has to run for a personal loan company to deal with the problem as it is.
Arizona immigration law slammed by Janet Napolitano
Janet Napolitano recently voiced her displeasure with the Arizona immigration law. The head of the Department of Homeland Security herself believes "it is a misguided law." (From CNN .) The issue has long gone without addressing, and also the President and Congress may soon make it a top priority.
Meghan McCain bucks her father's take
Breaking with John McCain's assessment of the bill, Meghan McCain has lambasted the Arizona immigration law. She recently wrote a post on The Daily Beast declaring it a "bad law" and that it "misses the bigger picture of what is really going on with illegal immigration." She also said those who do not see the daily impact of illegal immigration can't grasp the complexity of it, especially when we clearly depend to them without acknowledging it.
Statements from the Government of Mexico
The President of Mexico himself denounced the bill, and Governor Brewer for having signed it. President Felipe Calderon issued a statement announcing his aggravation with the measure."The criminalization of the migration phenomenon, far from contributing to the cooperation and collaboration between Mexico and the U.S., represents an obstacle in the solution of common problems in the border region." - from Christian Science Monitor .Other Mexican officials also condemned the Arizona immigration law. Consensus appears to be that Washington has neglected the issue, and also the attitude towards numerous immigrants, especially Latinos, has been ignorant of their contributions and hypocritical.
This isn't the first bill of its kind
This isn't really the very first time that a specific immigrant population has been dealt with by heavy handed legislation. It never works. It is apparent that many immigrants wish to come to this land to earn a quick payday with honest toil. A solution that doesn't benefit both sides would seem remiss, though you will find certainly always bad apples. There is demand for their labor, and there is supply, and nothing stands in the way of those forces.
